I'll take it

Rooting through skips is something I've got used to since starting art college because you'll never know what little treasures you could find. I found these cardboard box 'things' in the recycling and photographed them in different ways to create the letter E, they also relate to my word because of the way they look almost like they are eroding.

Off the page

I decided to experiment with my word by doing some 3D work. I found some blocks of wood in the materials store in college and thought I could work with them somehow, this is what I did. I tried to make the  e look like it had been eroded off

Erosion

I began to experiment with the word erosion which means the gradual destruction or diminution of something. I started off with some 2D work on paper and exploring some typefaces to find one which could possibly work well to portray the word erosion.

Time to get stuck in..

So after the first day of Viscom I'm really excited and cant wait to get to work. We were given our first two briefs, the first one is going to be an ongoing brief until we finish up for summer and that is we have to keep a visual journal/sketchbook, this i'm quite excited about.
The second one is a 3 week brief, we were each given a letter from the alphabet and using that letter we then have to design letterform under the theme 'State of the Nation'.
My letter is 'E' and I began to brainstorm words beginning with 'e' keeping the theme 'state of the nation' in mind.

Some words that came to mind:

Economy, Educate, Education, Employment, Earn, Earnings, Europe, Economic, Exchange, Endless, Empty, Equality, Expense, Exceed, Enemy, Extra, Erase, Exit, Enough, Effort, Endeavor, Erode, Emphasize, Experience, Eejits, Eliminate, Effect, Euro.

These are just some of the words I came up with. Out of the words I brainstormed I thought Erode sounded like a good word, because the country is breaking apart and deteriorating.

Got Viscom!!

So after doing 2 weeks each of fashion design, printmaking and visual communications it was finally time to decide what I wanted to study for the next few years at LSAD, the competition was tough and there was only a certain amount of spaces in each discipline so you can imagine how happy I was when I saw my name on the list saying I got my first choice ... Viscom

Drypoint

First I decided to do a dry point of one of my images because I think it contained interesting shapes I could work with.

Here is one of the first prints I produced! I am quite happy with the outcome but I think there is something missing so I might try combining it next with a monoprint
